Dr McAulay is a Queensland local, having graduated from the University of Queensland in 2003 and completed his specialist training in Brisbane, the Bayside, and Tweed Heads. He spent a significant period of his training in older persons' mental health and brain injury settings, and worked with a specialist disability psychiatry team at the Mater Hospital.

Since commencing private practice in 2012 he has gained considerable experience in the treatment of the behavioural and psychiatric symptoms that can present in people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. He is able to provide diagnostic assessments and reports for the NDIS.

He has expertise in managing WorkCover cases of psychological injury and providing opinions and reports for medicolegal and insurance purposes.  

Additionally, for the past decade he has maintained a strong interest in the assessment and treatment of attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) particularly in adults and during the transition from adolescence into adulthood.

In his practice, Dr McAulay aims to balance the use of medications where necessary against the need in every case to engage in psychotherapeutic management of issues.

Dr McAulay treats older adolescents, adults, and older persons.

  • Autism spectrum disorders

  • Adult ADHD

  • Chronic pain and associated psychiatric symptoms

  • General adult psychiatry including management of depression, anxiety, bipolar disorders, personality disorders

  • Medicolegal and insurance opinions / reports

  • Certified WorkCover provider
